Here's a juicy, distinctive, bottle of red from the Manchuela region in Southeastern Spain. It's 100% Bobal and full of juicy red fruit and tangy acidity with accents of blood orange, damp earth and tar. The crunchy fruit continues on the long, slighly chewy, finish. Really compelling for the money and versitile at table, too.

Perfectly ripe Tempranillo fruit took well to 12 months aging in French and American oak, delivering classic Crianza freshness and fruit to go with the spicy oak accents. This will get better and better over the next few years, but the elegant, sophisticated, interweaving of fruit, earth, and spice notes are very compelling right now! Great wine at table, especially with anything roasted or grilled.
"The 2008 Crianza has a lifted mulberry, sloe and bay leaf scented bouquet with a dash of white pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins on the entry. It is very well-balanced with a rounded, sensual finish that offers touches of pepper and burnt toast. This is a very fine Crianza. Drink now-2018."Wine Advocate 91 points

Norberto Miguel only makes this, his top wine, in selected vintages of exceptional ripeness and quality. It’s from 80+ year-old Tempranillo vines planted by Norberto’s grandfather and grown on the rocky, barren, soils of Rioja Alavesa. This is just about the perfect marriage between Rioja tradition and modern winemaking sensibility. The aromas are starting to unfurl, with brooding dark black raspberry and plum fruit and baking spice swirling in the glass. In the mouth it’s powerful and full with loads of dark black fruit, purple flower, and iron minerality. The oak treatment is perfect here, giving spice and complexity but not overwhelming the wine. Decant now or give it a few years to unwind – I’m drinking the 2005 at home right now, and it’s got another 5 years or so improvement in front of it!
"The 2008 Vendimia Seleccionada is also 100% Tempranillo sourced from 80+ year old vines and aged in French and American oak for 14 months. Aromas of balsam wood, tobacco, spice box, rose petal, and blackberry inform the nose of a ripe, sweetly-fruited, concentrated wine with a sense of elegance. Give this lengthy effort another 1-2 years of bottle age and drink it from 2013 to 2023." Wine Advocate 91 points
