Not sure what's in the water these days at this excellent co-op in the Alto Adige, but we know what's in the bottle - a LOT of quality for the money. This is a stunning Pinot Blanc, bursting with crisp green and yellow fruit with juicy acids and a firm, focused, mineral finish. Perhaps the ultimate wine to pair with any crab dish, but impossible to resist on its own.

We seem to be having a bit of a moment with Pinot Blanc, and this one from the young winemaking family at Dom Leon Boesch is a perfect example of why. On the nose, you'll find subtle aromas of pear and fresh apple. On the palate, those apple flavors come right through (maybe a Honeycrisp?) without ever veering into apple cider territory. The texture hits a perfect note of richness while remaining crisp and fresh. Try it with a richer poultry dish, like chicken breasts stuffed with goat cheese and herbs.

This 66/34 blend of Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc is what most California Chardonnays aspire to be, but never quite are. It opens with ripe aromas of stone fruits and juicy pear, along with a hint of something rich and creamy. It’s not quite butter – maybe crème fraiche? On the palate, the Pinot Gris lends weight and full fruit flavors, while the Pinot Blanc comes in with minerality, structure, and racier acidity.
Like all ABC wines, it’s barrel fermented and aged and goes through malolactic fermentation, but on this wine the wood is all used. Rather than the syrupy, blowsy, movie theater popcorn-notes that too much oak and malolactic often lends to California whites, here it lends texture and just a hint of something warm, sophisticated and spicy, like a grating of fresh nutmeg over a cream sauce rather than the whole bakeshop.
This unusual blend would be an ideal partner for richer seafood like scallops or lobster, but would work equally well at the Spring holiday table with dishes involving ham, new potatoes, or salmon with fresh dill. Because of its appealing richness, this would also make a fantastic stand-alone glass to sip before dinner or on a warm afternoon. - St Innocent Pinot Blanc Freedom Hill Vyd Willamette 2011 Product #26888 (In Stock)

Owner/winemaker Mark Vlossak created this wine so he'd have something perfect to drink with fresh Dungeness crab, and while it does other things well, it's really brilliant with seafood. Aromas of pineapple, white peach and apricot lead to a fresh, vibrant, mouthful of white fruits, spice and mineral. Round and minerally textured, it finishes with just the right squirt of acidity. Ceviche, shellfish, or even fish tacos all work beautifully.
