Ijalba Rioja Viura Genoli Blanco 2014 Product #30627 (In Stock)
Ijalba Rioja Viura Genoli Blanco 2014 Ijalba Rioja Viura Genoli Blanco 2014

A great example of how refreshing and fun white Rioja can be when it's not too ripe or over-oaked.  Here 100% Viura sees no oak at all, and that lets the crisp, ripe, pear, apple, and stone fruit flavors shine through. The fruit pumps on through the generous finish where a touch of dusty stone adds interest. Try it with seafood, salads, or just warm afternoons!

Vina Galana Garnacha Tintorera 2014 Product #31687 (In Stock)

What the Spanish call Garnacha Tintorera, the French call Alicante Bouschet, the red-fleshed crossing of Garnacha and Petit Bouschet in 1866.  Here it's delivering plenty of Grenache-like fruit - think oven-warmed cherry and strawberry - with extra complexity from Bouschet's characteristic herbal, savory, character.  No oak here, so lots of ripe and juicy primary fruit that courses across your palate towards a chalky, dusty, finish.  Fun sipper and with food.

La Mondianese Grignolino D' Asti 2014 Product #31377 (In Stock)
La Mondianese Grignolino D' Asti 2014 La Mondianese Grignolino D' Asti 2014

What is Grignolino?  A red wine grape from Piemonte, Italy, where the root name – grignole – means “many pips”, referring to the many seeds found in this rarely seen grape.  It’s prone to being tough and tannic, but not here.  Diane thought this tasted like “Pinot Noir and Sangiovese had a baby”, and there's definitely something to that.  In any event, it’s a lightly colored and textured wine that opens with aromas of sweet cherry, red berries, and a hint of lavender.  In the mouth the fruit is bright and juicy and a touch of earthiness comes up at the end.  Light enough to drink with fish or to take a chill for solo sipping.

Zardini Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore 2014 Product #31448 (In Stock)
Zardini Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore 2014 Zardini Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore 2014

A rarity here:  a nicely priced Ripasso that really does evoke Amarone character in a rich, crowd-pleasing, style.  Black berry, dried fruit, smoke and chocolate aromas and flavors lead the way.  There's good richness and plushness to the texture and a streak of chocolate and dried fruit that starts in the middle and flows on through the powerful, but supple, finish.

Ghiaccio Forte Morellino Di Scansano Vigne Del Passero 2014 Ghiaccio Forte Morellino Di Scansano Vigne Del Passero 2014

Fortunately, this wine with a mouthful of a name delivers a mouthful of delight!  Aromas of purple flowers, crushed black cherry, smoke and leather lead to big flavors of black cherry and plum with accents of spice and licorice.  Juicy up front, broad in the middle, and crisp and energetic at the end.  A terrific blend of Sangiovese (85%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (15%) that’s both seductively rich and brightly refreshing.  Not much you’re likely to put on your table that won’t play nicely with this terrific value.

Marramiero Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Da Ma 2014 Product #31288 (In Stock)
Marramiero Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Da Ma 2014 Marramiero Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Da Ma 2014

If you’ve enjoyed Villa Medoro’s Tre Bicchieri Montepulciano, then Da Ma is definetly a wine you’ll want to try.  Made from Montepulciano grown on different sites from across the DOC zone, this is a terrific example of how Montepulciano can be both ripe and fresh at the same time.  It’s very fragrant with aromas of smoke, leather, and a touch of something earthy over ripe blackberry fruit.  Then big and mouthfilling and generous flavors of juicy blackberry, raspberry, cherry and even some strawberry and a touch more leather and smoke.  The fine, soft, tannins give this enough structure to stand up to meat but it’s a pretty delectable sipper, too.

This is real Soave - made from 100% Garganega grapes grown in the limestone rich soils of Soave's Classico zone.  Aromas and flavors of lemon peel, almond, and hazelnut lead to a palate of peach, fresh nut, fresh flowers, and lemon and more.  There's fine richness and a bit of green apple to go with the lemon, mineral, and toasted nut flavors on the long, vibrant, finish.  Fine stuff.

Rutherford Ranch Two Range Red 2014 Rutherford Ranch Two Range Red 2014

Our first thought on tasting this robust blend of Merlot, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah was, "Wow - this tastes like a pretty darn good $25 red blend."  At better than 20% under that, it's better still!  Delivers a bold  mouthful of dark berry and black cherry fruit framed in generous French oak flavors (vanilla, chocolate, spice) and a smooth, rich, finish.  Perfect with roasts and steaks or just to sip.

Terredora Di Paolo Fiano Di Avellino 2014 Product #30729 (In Stock)
Terredora Di Paolo Fiano Di Avellino 2014 Terredora Di Paolo Fiano Di Avellino 2014

Terredora’s “basic” wine is a benchmark for classically styled Fiano, with loads of tropical fruit and a rich, full-bodied, texture balanced by mouthwatering acidity and laser-like focus.  Grapes harvested in the first 10 days of October ferment and age in steel including a few months on the lees.  The aromas and flavors are captivating if hard to describe:  flowers, pear, apricot, citrus, acacia, herb honey and toasted hazelnut notes weave in and out.  Brilliant stuff!

"Rich aromas of apple, herbs and flint. Very fresh and saline, showing a juicy mouthfeel and sneaky concentration to its stone fruit and herb flavors. Finishes with noteworthy persistence."   Vinous (D'Agata) 90+ points

En Numeros Vermells Classic Priorat Negre 1.5l 2014 Product #31055 (In Stock)

Silvia Puig made just 827 bottles of our favorite all-around Priorat red in the cool, fresh, 2014 vintage.  It's a blend of 65% Garnatxa, 30% Syrah, and 5% Carinyena fermented in open-top 300 liter and 500 liter French oak and then aged 13 months in those same barrels (with the tops back on).  The vintage gives this more energy and zip than previous releases, but there's no shortage of pure Priorat power.

Big, classically Priorat, aromas of spice, chocolate, blackberry, raspberry and baked plum really jump from the glass.  In the mouth it's rich and ripe with oodles of blue-black fruit, more chocolate and spice, and accents of tangy blueberry, blood orange and pomegranate.  Chewy and dense right on through the very long finish with notes of blackberry, plum, and flambéed cherries lingering on and on.  This will drink young and repay 10-15 years in cellar.
