Pol Roger Extra Cuvee De Reserve Brut Vintage 2004 Product #30247 (In Stock)
Pol Roger Extra Cuvee De Reserve Brut Vintage 2004 Pol Roger Extra Cuvee De Reserve Brut Vintage 2004

Winston Churchill drank a bottle a day and wouldn't get on a plane without at least a case aboard. Perhaps you shouldn't be quite so indulgent, but it's very, very, good.

"Ripe, mineral-accented orchard fruits and buttered toast on the deeply scented nose, with a sexy floral nuance in the background. On the palate, intense pear and tangerine flavors expand and gain spiciness with air. At once rich and lively, this Champagne finishes with excellent precision and lingering mineral and floral notes."  Vinous (Reynolds) 93 points

"A crowd-pleaser, with overall harmony and elegance, this is hard to stop sipping, showing lively acidity and a fine, creamy mousse that carries flavors of black cherry and berry, pastry cream, honey and candied ginger. Presents a fresh, chalk-tinged finish. Drink now through 2027."Wine Spectator 93 points

Quinta Dona Matilde Porto Colheita 1982 Product #27906 (In Stock)
Quinta Dona Matilde Porto Colheita 1982 Quinta Dona Matilde Porto Colheita 1982

You’ve only got a little while to grab some of this stunning, 30 year-old Port, because there are only 2 cases to go around – and it’s taking all of my willpower not to take it all home myself! A Tawny-style port, all from the 1982 vintage, that aged in barrel until being bottled in late 2013.  The dominant theme here is caramel coated walnut with variations ranging from candied orange peel to crystalized rose petal, sugar-dusted dried currant, rich toffee, sweet spice and more.  Every sip rings in a new tune.  Even with all the richness, this glides across your palate weightlessly and the sweet, nutty, finish clings in your mouth endlessly.  Amazing wine to share (or hoard for yourself!).

Bollinger Brut Champagne La Grand Annee 2005 Product #30056 (In Stock)
Bollinger Brut Champagne La Grand Annee 2005 Bollinger Brut Champagne La Grand Annee 2005

More powerful, complex, and intense than Special Cuvee, Bollinger’s 2005 vintage Champagne is showy now and built to improve further with time.  It’s 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay from 13 different Cru vineyards, about 95% Grands Cru and the rest Premier.  All of the base wines aged for about a year in barrel – high quality, used, barrels constructed at Bollinger’s own in-house cooperage – and then resting about 6 years on the lees of secondary fermentation.  Plenty of power here, but also sophistication and grace to the complex notes of honey, ginger, hazelnut, and dried fruit aromas and flavors.

"Very subtle, complete nose. Hedgerows and lift. Substantial wine that is not as tight-knit as some but is certainly attention grabbing. Drink now-2028" Jancis Robinson 17/20 points

"A powerful, structured and graceful 2005, showing deft integration of the rich, chalky underpinning, firm acidity and expansive flavors of crushed black currant, spring blossom, toasted almond, crystallized honey and preserved lemon. Offers a fine, raw silk—like mousse and a long, spiced finish. Disgorged February 2015. Drink now through 2030."Wine Spectator 94 points

Warre's Vintage 1997 Product #29344 (In Stock)
Warre's Vintage 1997 Warre's Vintage 1997

"Dark ruby. Subtle and rich aromas of prune, spice, juniper berry and leaves. Full-bodied and medium sweet, with big round tannins. Lasts for minutes on the palate. Still very young. It's lost its youthful toughness, but give it a little more time. '77/'85/'97 blind Port retrospective. Best after 2010."Wine Spectator 94 points

Egly-Ouriet Grand Cru Millesime 2006 Product #31390 (In Stock)
Egly-Ouriet Grand Cru Millesime 2006 Egly-Ouriet Grand Cru Millesime 2006

Everyone agrees on this one - as always one of the great wines of Ambonnay.

"Another standout, the 2006 Brut Millesime is stellar. This is an especially broad, creamy Champagne built on textural richness. Lemon oil, white flowers, smoke, almonds and baked apple are some of the signatures. Rich and resonant on the palate, the 2006 will drink beautifully for another decade or so, even if it could benefit from a little more time in bottle. Egly's 2006 is a pure pleasure to taste today."  Vinous (Galloni) 94 points

"The 2006 Brut Millésime Grand Cru is a really rich and intense, yet also a pure and fresh cuvée based on 60/70% barrel-fermented Pinot Noir and 30/40% barrel-fermented Chardonnay. It is a full-bodied, concentrated and extremely well-structured cuvée with a grippy, long and persistent finish. The dosage is two grams per liter. There are lovely fresh berry flavors on the nose."Wine Advocate 94 points

"Ripe fruit and floral notes herald this mouthwatering Champagne, with nectarine, gingersnap biscuit, orchard blossom and anise notes carried through the fine, chalky mousse. Well-knit and vibrant, featuring a long finish of smoke and spice."Wine Spectator 94 points

"The VC brand ambassador, the NV Brut Yellow Label (an assemblage of 55% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay and 15% Meunier) contains 35% reserve wines. On the nose, ripe and intense (yellow-fleshed) fruit aromas intermix with a very nice maturity from the reserve wines. This is a medium-bodied, yet round and full-flavored Brut. Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame 2006 Product #30313 (In Stock)
Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame 2006 Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame 2006

Named for Champagne's most famous widow - and inventor of everything from Vintage Champagne to riddling racks - this is very grand indeed.  In 2006, it's a blend of 53% Pinot Noir and 47% Chardonnay aged 8 years on the lees in bottle before disgorgement in early 2015.  A powerful, rich, wine with loads of potential in front of it.

"Bright and graceful, this seamlessly knits a subtle streak of smoke-tinged minerality with flavors of almond financier, poached pear, candied kumquat and crème de cassis, focused by vibrant acidity and a refined, creamy mousse. Disgorged January 2014. Drink now through 2030."Wine Spectator 94 points

En Numeros Vermells Classic Priorat Negre 1.5l 2014 Product #31055 (In Stock)

Silvia Puig made just 827 bottles of our favorite all-around Priorat red in the cool, fresh, 2014 vintage.  It's a blend of 65% Garnatxa, 30% Syrah, and 5% Carinyena fermented in open-top 300 liter and 500 liter French oak and then aged 13 months in those same barrels (with the tops back on).  The vintage gives this more energy and zip than previous releases, but there's no shortage of pure Priorat power.

Big, classically Priorat, aromas of spice, chocolate, blackberry, raspberry and baked plum really jump from the glass.  In the mouth it's rich and ripe with oodles of blue-black fruit, more chocolate and spice, and accents of tangy blueberry, blood orange and pomegranate.  Chewy and dense right on through the very long finish with notes of blackberry, plum, and flambéed cherries lingering on and on.  This will drink young and repay 10-15 years in cellar.

Dom Perignon Vintage 2006 Product #31068 (In Stock)

"The 2006 Dom Pérignon comes from a very rich vintage with an early ripeness that brought a lot of aromatic maturity. The white-golden prestige cuvée contains a bit more Chardonnay than Pinot Noir and opens with a deep and seductive, pretty accessible nose with intense yet fresh fruit aromas of pineapples, with peaches and tangerines. Lively and elegant on the palate, this is a full-bodied, unusually aromatic and fruity DP with a long and tension-filled expression."Wine Advocate 96 points

Maynard's Port Colheita 1950 Product #30547 (In Stock)
Maynard's Port Colheita 1950 Maynard's Port Colheita 1950

Sometimes called, “The Ladies’ Vintage,” 1950 gave fresh, elegant, and very pure wines and was a “declared” vintage for many Port houses and shippers.  While there's certainly elegance here, there's also plenty of "umph" to the sweet and savory complexity of cured tobacco, orange peel, warm stone, fig, date, and dried plum aromas and flavors.  Brisk on the finish, a wine to really savor.

Broadbent Boal Madeira 1978 Product #26993 (In Stock)
Broadbent Boal Madeira 1978 Broadbent Boal Madeira 1978

Very rare and limited.

"The 1978 Boal was aged in oak casks until bottling in February 2011. Compared directly against the Terrantez, the Boal does not quite have the same degree of complexity and harmony. It politely requests time to “tuck in its shirt” and “straighten its tie”. After several hours it offers scents of smoked walnut, a touch of peat, marmalade and furniture polish. The palate is very harmonious and seems to have more composure and refinement than the aromatics: cracked black pepper on the entry that reluctantly gives way to honey, bitter orange, marjoram and Clementine. It is not a heavyweight Boal, erring more towards Terrantez in terms of perceived sweetness, although it is graceful and elegant from start to finish."Wine Advocate 92 points

Maynard's Port Colheita 1934 Product #30549 (In Stock)
Maynard's Port Colheita 1934 Maynard's Port Colheita 1934

A limited treasure.

"The 1934 Colheita Port (Maynard's) is a blend of 25% Touriga Franca, 20% Tinta Roriz, 15% Tinta Amarela, 10% Tinta Barroca and 30% of traditional grape varieties (Sousão, Bastardo, Rufete, Sousão, Tinta Francisca, among others); coming in at 154 grams per liter of residual sugar. It is one of many fine 1934s I've had. It's a happy trend. This powerhouse is initially all about its power and it has quite a lot. I always recommend drinking Tawnies a bit cool, but double underline that here. Concentrated and complex, it isn't just about preening in its power, though it adds some sweetness on the finish and becomes increasingly complex and flavorful as it calms down a bit. Overall, it's rather stunning. Since the 80th birthday celebrations are over, you may as well sit it down and knock it back. It's pretty fine."Wine Advocate 96 points
