- Castil Harria Reserva Navarra 2005 Product #31655 (In Stock)
The ability of even pretty modest Tempranillo-based Spanish wines to age well is on display here in spades. On release, this was a nice little $15 red from a good co-op in Navara, not far from Rioja. The co-op's members grow mainly Garnacha, but this wine takes advanage of some plots of rich and dark-fruited Temparnillo given extra lift from dashes of Garnacha, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. At age 11, the wine has held onto its fruit - bright cherry with a hint of Grenache-y strawberry - nicely and shows layer upon layer of mellow oak spice. Fine and dusty tannins give support but certainly don't get in the way of casual sipping. And as the wine has gained age and complexity, the price has just gone down. Well worth a try!
