- Bishops Peak Chardonnay Central Coast 2015 Product #31659 (In Stock)
Back when the 2010 Bishop's Peak Chardonnay released at $15 per bottle, Wine Advocate said, "If there is a better California Chardonnay for the money, I would like to know about it," and Steve Tanzer's IWC said, "This delivers serious bang for the buck." The only thing that's changed over the years is that the wine has gotten even better and - at least hear - not a $1 more expensive to you.
In 2015, 100% of the ripe Chardonnay fruit comes from Oliver's Vineyard in the Edna Valley - plenty sunny enough to get ripe flavors but so chilled by Pacific Ocean breezes that the wine finishes at 13.4% abv. About half the wine ferments and ages in old (flavorless) French oak barrels - that gives the wine complexity and roundness. And half is done in stainless steel tanks for maximum fruit and freshness. Once blended, it's 100% delicious in a "Wow! - That's amazing!" kind of way.
"Meyer lemon, quince, white flowers and smoky minerals on the lively, incisive nose. Nervy citrus and orchard fruit flavors show very good clarity and a complementary subtle honeysuckle quality. Juicy and precise on the clinging finish, which strongly echoes the mineral and floral notes." Vinous (Raynolds) 90 points
- Talley Vineyards Chardonnay Estate 2014 Product #31604 (In Stock)
Another stunning value from this Edna Valley benchmark.
"Pale gold. A lively, incisive bouquet evokes citrus and orchard fruits and white flowers, and an iodine nuance emerges as the wine opens up. Shows excellent clarity and depth to the fresh orange, pear and candied ginger flavors, which open up steadily with air. Smoothly combines power and vivacity and finishes very long and taut, with resonating mineral and floral notes." Vinous (Raynolds) 92 points
"The 2014 Chardonnay Estate, which is from the Arroyo Grande Valley, is outstanding. Notes of white flowers, white peach and saline-like characteristics all emerge from the medium-bodied, chiseled, clean and beautifully precise Chardonnay. Mostly from the Rincon Vineyard, with smaller portions from Rosemary's and Monet Sereno, aged nine months in 23% new French oak, drink it over the coming 2-4 years."Wine Advocate 90 points
- Talley Vineyards Pinot Noir Estate 2014 Product #31575 (In Stock)
Super bold and rich this vintage but still with elegance and focus to spare. Lovely value.
"Brilliant ruby-red. Highly fragrant, spice-accented aromas of red and dark berry preserves and floral pastilles; a hint of vanilla emerges with air. Expansive raspberry and cherry-cola flavors are energized and lifted by juicy acidity and a late jolt of white pepper. Packs a solid punch but comes off lithe, finishing with excellent focus, well-knit tannins and strong persistence." Vinous (Galloni) 92 points
- Talley Vineyards Chardonnay Oliver's Vyd 2014 Product #31705 (In Stock)
Delivers stunning richness at just 13.6% abv. Do not miss!
"Potent smoke- and mineral-accented aromas of ripe orange, pear, lemongrass and iodine. Fleshy yet dry and precise, offering energetic citrus and orchard fruit flavors complemented by hints of quinine, tarragon and honeysuckle. Closes with emphatic cut and firm grip, leaving a zesty note of smoky minerals behind. Impressive for its blend of depth and finesse, not to mention its precision." Vinous (Raynolds) 93 points
"Another terrific white is the 2014 Chardonnay Oliver's Vineyard, which is located in the Edna Valley and was planted in 1991 (it's named after Talley Farms founder Oliver Talley). Barrel-fermented and aged 15 months in 16% new French oak, it's a richer, mineral-laced effort that offers lots of buttered orchard fruits, caramelized citrus and brioche to go with a textured, layered style on the palate that still has impressive purity, tension and acidity. Drink it over the coming 5-6 years."Wine Advocate 93 points
