- Mayacamas Vineyards Merlot Napa 2010 Product #30517 (In Stock)
Oh, so THIS is why folks used to get excited about Napa Merlot! There's already some maturity to the aromas, with lots of redcurrant, cured tobacco, rose petal, cedar and spice notes that reprise on the elegant, silky, palate and linger long and sweet on the finish. Just 13.5% abv, perfectly ripe, and utterly compelling, this tastes as much like mature Bordeaux or old Rioja as anything else. Very exciting.
- Mayacamas Vineyards Cabernet Napa 2010 Product #30516 (In Stock)
A great release from this legendary Napa estate perched high atop Mount Veeder. After 44 years, including the 1971’s appearance in the famous Judgement of Paris tasting in 1976, this is owner/winemaker Bob Travers’ final vintage as former Screaming Eagle winemaker Andy Erickson takes over. If you’ve ever wondered what the greatest Napa Cabernets of the 1960s and 1970s tasted like young, the answer is “this.” From dry-farmed vineyards at the top of Mount Veeder, picked early at high acidity and low sugar (just 13.25% abv), and aged 2 years in larger barrels, 1 year in barrique, and 1 year more in bottle, this is the essence of elegance. Fun to taste now, but really wants 5 years more in cellar and will last a long, long, time.
"Graphite, smoke, licorice, game, savory herbs and a host of inky blue/blackish stone fruits make an appearance in the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon. Beautifully layered and intense, the 2010 offers a compelling interplay of finesse and power. Still, my sense is that the 2010 is holding back much of its potential. Readers need to be patient, but the 2010 is shaping up to be a gem." Vinous (Galloni) 95+ points
