- Santa Barbara Verdicchio 2011 Product #25910 (In Stock)
-
-
Santa Barbara's entry-level Verdicchio has been a favorite at the store for years. For the second year in a row, this vintage sees a bit of a step up from what was already a rock-solid white. You'll find a lovely melange of dried lemon, pink grapefruit, mineral and a touch of dried herb here in a fairly full-bodied take on Verdicchio. It's at once round/fruity and juicy/crisp.

- La Slina Gavi Cichero 2011 Product #26338 (In Stock)
-
-
La Slina's owner/winemaker Giorgio Cichero's flagship Gavi is 100% Cortese from the hills of Italy's Piemonte region. It's fragrant with hints of fruit and white flowers - very pretty! Then crisp and dry on the palate with crunchy apple and citrus notes. The finish is bright and fresh - a wine that will go with seafood, but also mushroom dishes.
- Kellerei Kaltern Caldaro Pinot Grigio 2011 Product #25887 (In Stock)
-
-
Easily the best sub-$25 Pinot Grigio we’ve tried in years, this is Pinot Grigio for folks who like flavor with their crisp, refreshing, whites. At once crisp and rich and bursting with bright green pear, apple, peach and citrus and a long, mouthwatering, saline-inflected finish. Not surprising that Wine Enthusiast named this #39 on their Top 100 Wine Values of 2012!
"This gorgeous Pinot Grigio displays the fresh aromatic fragrances associated with cool-climate, mountain winemaking. Layers of jasmine, tangerine, cut grass and white almond appear on the bouquet, giving this wine a delicate and feminine personality. A spicy touch of acidity drives the clean, bright finish."Wine Enthusiast 90 points
- La Formica Soave DOCG 2011 Product #26771 (In Stock)
-
-
We (and many of you) loved the 2010 La Formica Soave for its marriage of rich texture and bright, refreshing, acids. The 2011 is at once richer than the 2010 – even more mouthfilling and round – and more fresh and vibrant. Once again, it’s 100% estate-grown Garganega, Soave’s best grape, hand harvested and vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel (no oak to mask the flavors).
The color is classic Soave – golden yellow – as are the generous aromas of almonds, lemon zest, white flowers, apricot, and dash of fresh ginger. In the mouth, there’s the fantastic yin/yang of richness and zing that makes Soave so captivating. The texture is silky and round and coats your mouth completely, but the flavors are bright and fresh – Myer lemon, lime zest, tangy apricot, yellow apple and golden pear fruit with just a touch of honeysuckle and fresh almond. The citrusy acidity scrubs your palate clean as the boisterous fruit and honesuckle flavors go on and on. Excellent to sip on its own and a lovely match for simple chicken, freshwater fish, or crunch vegetable dishes. - Damilano Arneis Langhe 2010 Product #25699 (In Stock)
-
-
Crisp, clean and lemony fresh, this is a 'zingier' take on Arneis than some of the other Arneis we have in the shop. Aromas of fresh pineapple, juicy orange and citrus rind invite you to take a refreshing sip. The bright acidity prickles your tongue. From Barolo producer Damilano, this is a fun, refreshing white perfect for seafood or appetizers.
- Villa Brunesca Pinot Grigio 2012 Product #27087 (In Stock)
-
-
New to us, but sure to become a customer favorite! Pinot Grigio grown on the plains north of Venice don't often yield this kind of character. It's a rich, creamy, Grigio with lots of depth to the lightly candied pear and salty caramel flavors. Ripe pear features prominently in the nose and on the palate, with plenty of spicy pear and nectarine fruit lingering at the end. A powerhouse Pinot Grigio that will sing with Indian or Thai food.
- Nals Margreid Pinot Grigio Punggl 2011 Product #26182 (In Stock)
-
-
A terrific follow-up to the Tanzer 92 point 2010. Unusually focused and precise for Pinot Grigio, it finishes brisk and strong with mouth-coating flavors. We think the Wine Enthusiast review says it all!
This is delightful, with amazing intensity and unique smoothness. Aromas of honey, peach and cantaloupe linger on the finish, with a fresh note of mountain flower. This is a simple wine, but a perfectly executed one. Wine Enthusiast 92 points
- Marramiero Trebbiano Da Ma 2011 Product #25949 (In Stock)
-
-
Marramiero's "DaMa" Trebbiano is proof that even the most humble of grapes can shine with the right treatment! Trebbiano has often been overcropped and made into light table wines that lack much real character, but that is not the case with this beauty. Exotic scents of green melon and honeysuckle give way to nice richness on the mid-palate. The finish is snappy and crisp, though, with that signature hint of herbaceousness that we love so much in Italian whites. Perfect for light cheeses, charcuterie, or just something to sip on after a long day.
- Cantina Taburno Falanghina 2011 Product #26003 (In Stock)
-
-
A perennial favorite, the Cantina del Taburno Falanghina is better than ever in 2011. At once crisp and deeply fruity, this is about as refreshing and enticing a Falanghina as we’ve ever seen. You’ll find loads of pretty lemon, nectarine, and almond blossom aromas and flavors and a bright, citrusy finish with good underlying minerality. The wine is long on the palate and then even longer on the captivating finish. Easy to drink on its own and simply brilliant with seafood or light poultry dishes. Just plain excellent.
- Kellerei Kaltern Caldaro Pinot Bianco Vial 2011 Product #26028 (In Stock)
-
-
Not sure what's in the water these days at this excellent co-op in the Alto Adige, but we know what's in the bottle - a LOT of quality for the money. This is a stunning Pinot Blanc, bursting with crisp green and yellow fruit with juicy acids and a firm, focused, mineral finish. Perhaps the ultimate wine to pair with any crab dish, but impossible to resist on its own.
- Palazzone Orvieto Terre Vineate 2011 Product #26721 (In Stock)
-
-
Another great vintage for one of our all-time favorite Orvieto! A blend of 50% Procanico, 20% Grechetto, 30% Verdello, Malvasia & Drupeggio, this is always a bigger take on Orvieto, with lots of rich peach and pear fruit. The texture is creamy, but there's a nice lime zest acidity to keep things bright plus notes of almond and fruit blossom. Long and floral on the mouthwatering finish.
- Vietti Moscato D'asti Cascinetta 2012 Product #26758 (In Stock)
-
-
One of Italy's best Moscato d'Astis comes to us from the great Barolo producer Vietti. The beautiful perfumed aromatics of Moscato - peaches, apricots, and honeysuckle - are front and center here. On the palate, the nectar-like sweetness is balanced by just enough fresh acidity and gentle bubbles. Perfect with light fruit desserts, brunch, or just to sip and contemplate on its own.
- Orsolani Erbaluce La Rustia 2011 Product #26829 (In Stock)
-
-
When you think of Piemonte, red wines come to mind. But, here in the bed of an ancient glacial lake just north of Turin, "Gigi" Orsolani sets the benchmark for brilliant, bright, white wines made from the anchient Erbaluce grape. It's a high acid grape that seems to do best when grown at moderate yields on old-fashioned pergolas and fermented clean and dry in stainless steel. Gigi's "La Rustia" Erbaluce opens with aromatics of orchard fruits, wildflowers, and honey and then fills your mouth with ripe fruit and refreshing mountain herbs. Bright and mouthwatering, this is rich enough to just sip but outstanding with cheeses and seafood.
- Valdinera Roero Arneis 2012 Product #27073 (In Stock)
-
-
The Careglio family makes this Arneis in Roero, near Alba in the heart of Piemonte. Their 2012 Arneis is a beauty, our favorite in the store! Lovely aromas and flavors of ripe peach and nectarine plus tart green apple and a pretty note of anise running throughout. Ripe enough for a hint of honey to show in the middle, but with wonderfully refreshing acidity and a crisp, dry, finish.
- Matteo Correggia Roero Arneis White 2011 Product #25794 (In Stock)
-
-
The new release of one of Piemonte's most reliable Arneis - three straight WA 90 or 91 point scores! The 2011 harks back to the 2008 in style with loads of white peach, almond, smoke and floral aromas and flavors and a refreshing, peach and citrus-inflected, finish. A natural with fresh fish or shrimp and also outstanding with complex Asian flavors. Excellent!
- De Forville Chardonnay Cascina Buc Piemonte 2011 Product #25984 (In Stock)
-
-
There's actually a lot of Chardonnay grown in Italy, but it tends to suffer from one of two faults: too expensive or not very good. This is the exception! Barolo's DeForville family planted a small vineyard in Barbaresco to Chardonnay in the mid-1980s and the results are very, very, impressive. This bright, crisp, Chardonnay is vinified and raised in stainless steel to preserve freshness and energy. It's creamy in the mouth with juicy pineapple, green apple, fresh butter, and a touch of chalk but finishes with a lovely squirt of lemony acidity. Great with seafood or just to start off a meal.
- Vercesi Gugiarolo Pinot Nero Bianco 2011 Product #26655 (In Stock)
-
-
Yes, this is the "geekiest" white wine in the store - a white made from 100% Pinot Noir (yup - Noir, not Blanc) in the southern part of Lombardy. But, it's here because it's just crazy delicious and will delight anyone who love Pinot Gris or Chardonnay. Aromas of red berries, apple and almond lead to a fully flavored, richly textured, mouthful of orchard fruits and just a hint of cherry. Gain minerality in the middle and on the long, juicy, finish. A terrific choice for pre-dinner sipping with nibbles or all kinds of seafood or poultry dishes.
- Adami Prosecco Tranquillo Giardino 2011 Product #26878 (In Stock)
-
-
"Tranquillo" means "still" - as in, this is wine from Prosecco that doesn't have any fizz! Fizzy Prosecco is a fairly recent "tradition" in the hills of Prosecco, but crisp, tangy, still white wine has been grown here for centuries. This is a throwback to that time, but with modern skills. It's a blend 0f 90% Glera and 10% Chardonnay, ripened to a brisk 11% abv and then fermented dry in stainless steel. As you'd expect, crisp and bright but with plenty of creamy, tropical, fruit and zesty lime character, too. Rare, mouthwatering, and lots of fun to drink.
- Santa Barbara Verdicchio Le Vaglie 2011 Product #26067 (In Stock)
-
-
Get ready to have your ideas about Verdicchio radically revised! This old-vine (30 years) Verdicchio from the village of Le Vaglie in the Marche explodes with clean peach and citrus fruit, a touch of anise and fresh herb flower, and masses of stony mineral complexity. At once elegant and muscular, this layered, mouthwatering, white will shine with seafood and rich poultry dishes.
