- Mt Monster Shiraz Limestone Coast 2010 Product #26868 (In Stock)
-
-
We’re pretty picky about Aussi Shiraz here, but this stunning value delighted us with its tangy blueberry fruit and accents of roasted meat, leather, and violet. Juicy, not jammy, and perhaps underrated by the critics.
"Dark ruby. Smoke-accented aromas of cherry pit, cassis and olive, with a peppery overtone. A juicy, nervy midweight, offering subtly sweet dark berry flavors and a hint of candied flowers. A blueberry note builds with air and carries through a tangy, juicy finish. This wine benefits quite a bit from aeration."International Wine Cellar 88 points
"Smooth and generous, with a gentle, plush push of raspberry, cherry and mocha flavors, which persist nicely on the finish."Wine Spectator 89 points
- Black Chook Shiraz/Viognier 2010 Product #26525 (In Stock)
-
-
Big, but focused.
"A 94/6 blend that saw one-third new French and American oak. Inky purple. Vibrant, intensely spicy aromas of blackberry, boysenberry, cracked pepper and fresh flowers. Elegant, full-bodied black and blue fruit flavors expand nicely, with refreshing mineral bite adding vibrancy. Very clean, focused shiraz, with excellent energetic finishing lift and cut."International Wine Cellar 90 points
- Dandelion Vineyards Lionheart Barossa Shiraz 2010 Product #26630 (In Stock)
-
-
There's good lift and brightness to the powerfully ripe fruit here from an old-vine (many 100+ year-old vines) in the heart of Barossa.
"Glass-staining purple. Aromas and flavors of candied dark fruits and violet, with subtle smokiness and a touch of black pepper. Smooth and seamless in texture, with very good finishing power and persistent florality."Wine Advocate 91 points
"Focused, juicy and broad, but refreshingly balanced, lifting the dark, ripe blackberry, cherry and spice flavors with lively acidity. Finishes with snap. Drink now through 2017."Wine Spectator 90 points
- Mollydooker The Boxer Shiraz 2011 Product #27082 (In Stock)

Another big boy from Mollydooker's Sparky Marquis!
- Beckmen Estate Syrah Santa Ynez 2009 Product #25682 (In Stock)
-
-
"This is a fabulous set of wines from Beckmen Vineyards. I was especially impressed with the reds. The estate works almost exclusively with biodynamically farmed fruit, uses indigenous yeasts and (with one exception) has a very refined approach to cooperage. The 2009 Syrah Estate possesses dazzling purity and length in a cool, inward style that stands a bit apart from some of the more opulent wines in this lineup. There is a level of delineation in the aromas and flavors here that is quite striking. A vein of minerality frames the inviting finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019."Wine Advocate 91 points
"Distinctive for its restraint, with spicy, peppery notes on a trim body. The dried berry flavors are ripe yet not overdone, ending with a long, tight, focused finish. Best from 2012 through 2022. 1,800 cases made."Wine Spectator 90 points
- Hedges Syrah DLD Red Mountain 2010 Product #26384 (In Stock)
-
-
A terrific Washington Syrah that marries New World fruit with Old World class. Tom Hedges and Anne-Marie Liégeois met and married in her native Champagne before moving back to Tom's home in Washington and starting their winery in 1986. This wine, from the top Red Mountain AVA, is 100% Syrah aged for 14 months in 65% new oak and the rest used barrels, including French, American, and Hungarian wood. It's intensely perfumed and big in the mouth with notes of dried herb, bacon, cigar, black licorice, and black fruit. Notes of smoke, anise, white pepper and sage emerge on the long, powerful, finish. It should develop well for another decade or so.
- Melville Syrah Estate Verna's Sta. Rita Hills 2010 Product #26389 (In Stock)
-
-
Another terrific vintage for one of the Central Coast's top Syrah wines.
"Longtime winemaker Greg Brewer has done a great job with these new releases. A delicate, finely knit fabric of aromas and flavors floats on the palate in the 2010 Syrah Estate Verna-s. Mint, plums and sweet herbs all meld together in this gracious, impeccable Syrah. The intensely perfumed, feminine finish has a sweet, almost-Pinot like register from the use of 50% whole clusters. Amazingly, in 2010 the harvest stretched into December 1. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018."Wine Advocate 90 points
- Lundeen Syrah Rogue Valley 2008 Product #26605 (In Stock)
-
-
Not surprisingly, when an talented Willamette Valley Pinot winemaker heads south for Syrah from Oregon's Rouge Valley, you end up with something special - a New World Syrah for Pinot lovers! Aromas and flavors feature ripe and tangy blueberry and blackberry fruit accented by a dash of bitter chocolate and hint of Syrah's characteristic rare meat. The flavors are fantastically pure and the texture light and elegant, but there's plenty of intensity and depth here, too. Fine grained tannins and just the right touch of spice and meat support the long, berry-filled, finish. Just about perfect for roast pork or beef tenderloin!
- Guigal Saint Joseph Rouge 2009 Product #26387 (In Stock)
-
-
As always, one of the very best values in the Guigal line-up.
"Inky purple. Sexy aromas of candied dark berries, violet and Moroccan spices, with a bright mineral overtone. Lively and precise on the palate, which offers sweet dark berry flavors and gently chewy texture. Shows very good intensity on the finish, which clings with lingering minerality and spiciness. These vines are mostly in Mauves, according to Philippe Guigal."International Wine Cellar 91 points
"As I have written many times before, no one in the wine world is better at ‘raising’ a wine (or as the French call it elevage) than Marcel Guigal, who learned the skills from his father, Etienne. Because everyone tends to focus on vintage conditions and terroir, the importance of a wine’s elevage is often overlooked, but Guigal’s unusually long tank, foudre and small barrel aging regime for all his red wines as well as several of his whites results in an array of remarkable wines time and time again. The dense purple-colored 2009 St.-Joseph was scheduled to be bottled soon after my visit. It reveals lots of crushed rock, black raspberry, licorice and floral notes in its medium to full-bodied, attractive personality. It should offer plenty of charm over the next 7-8 years." Wine Advocate 90 points
"This has lovely notes of apple wood, incense and espresso up front, followed by a solid core of crushed plum and steeped blackberry fruit. A smoldering tobacco edge hangs on the lightly firm finish. Best from 2013 through 2018."Wine Spectator 91 points
- Dom Marc Sorrel Crozes Hermitage 2009 Product #25484 (In Stock)
-
-
We think of Northern Rhone Syrah as being powerful and dark, but here’s an example of Crozes-Hermitage that is almost Burgundian in grace and complexity. The aromas are floral and swirling with nice hints of black plum, blackberry, and smoked meats. In the mouth, it’s vibrant and fresh with plenty of spicy black fruit in the middle and then floral and stone notes emerging at the end. An elegant take on Crozes that will work beautifully with smoked pork or grilled lamb or even roast chicken.
