- Zaleo Tempranillo Seleccion Ribera Del Guadiana 2010 Product #26799 (In Stock)
-
-
This 100% Tempranillo from Spain’s heartland could become your new "go to" burger, pizza, or just sipping on its own red! Made all in tank - no oak - it's loaded with black plum, cherry, and natural spice aromas and flavors. Bitter chocolate and black licorice notes emerge in the middle and carry on through a fun and tasty mouthwatering finish. No harm in chilling this a bit, either!
- Palacios Remondo Rioja La Vendimia 2010 Product #27128 (In Stock)
-
-
Very nice value in a ripe, red fruited, Rioja that's on the fruitier side of this region's many styles.
"ased in Alfaro in Rioja Baja, Bodegas Palacios Remondo is where Alvaro Palacios wields his talent when not in Priorat (or elsewhere). Given his exacting standards there, it is unsurprising that he has sought to decrease production in order to improve quality. It is also unsurprising that these form an excellent set of Rioja wines, sculpted in a more modern style, although to be truly honest, I found his cheaper wines just as good, if not better than the flagship Propiedad! The 2010 Vendimia has a lifted nose driven by Garnacha. It offers ripe maraschino cherry, marmalade and damson fruit that is uncomplicated but very seductive. The palate is medium-bodied and very well-balanced, underpinned by fine, but firm tannins. There is a rigid backbone to this wine that complements the fleshy red currant and raspberry fruit on the finish. Drink now-2017."Wine Advocate 90 points
- 14 Hands Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 Product #25671 (In Stock)
-
-
A perennial "Best Seller" in restaurants, and a very fine value in Washington Cabernet. 14 Hands Cabernet Sauvignon features aromas of red currants and raspberries with subtle hints of spice. Spiced cherry & plum flavors are joined by notes of cocoa and complemented by fine velvety tannins. A little Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Petit Verdot help drive the fruit forward and keep things soft and lush.
- Giuggiolo Toscana Rosso 2010 Product #26507 (In Stock)
-
-
Here is my actual tasting note from the first time I tried this: “This is just stupid delicious.” A few more details – this is 100% Sangiovese made in staeinless steel that opens with fresh and lovely aromas of violets, purple fruits and crushed cherries. In the mouth it’s juicy and ripe with loads of pretty fruit and a dark, earthy, streak. Bright and clean through the end with a delicious note of coffee and cocoa dust emerging at the end. Drink it with a little chill with pizza and pasta or warmer with anything off the grill. Like I said: Stupid delicious.
- Bodega Benegas Malbec Juan Benegas 2010 Product #26581 (In Stock)
-
-
This little gem WAY over delivers for its modest price. Winegrower/maker Federico Benegas Lynch is a master of getting perfectly ripe fruit from his old-vine vineyards and, with help from master consultant Michel Rolland, turning out honest wines of great depth and character. Here you'll find a fun, fruity, wine with earthy blackberry, blueberry, spice and coffee aromas and flavors. An iron ore minerality adds complexity and the round tannins and bright acids just the right support. It's fruitier and not quite as complex as Frederico's Estate Malbec, but just perfect for parties or pairing with everyday meals.
- 14 Hands Merlot 2010 Product #26725 (In Stock)
-
-
One of the top 20 wine-by-the-glass offerings in US restaurants, 14 Hands Merlot is also a big favorite in the store! This soft, almost juicy, Merlot is packed with cherry and red berry fruit and just a dash of wood spice and classic Merlot herbs. The wine is round and well-focused, and a perfect match with just about any weeknight meal.
- Colsanto Ruris Umbria 2010 Product #26966 (In Stock)
-
-
Here's our single best-selling Italian wine of the past five years - a fantastic value that tastes like it costs twice as much as it does. The wine is mainly (70%) Sangiovese and delivers plenty of that variety's juicy black cherry fruit. But, the 20% Merlot in the blend rounds out the mid-palate and keeps the wine soft while the secret ingredient -- 10% Sagrantino -- adds spice and complexity uncommon in Umbrian wines. Sure, it goes well with pizza and robust pasta sauces, but there's enough going on to handle game and hard, salty, cheeses and a soft enough finish just to drink at a party. Fantastic value.
- Bodegas Lar De Paula Rioja Tempranillo 2010 Product #26870 (In Stock)
-
-
100% Tempranillo from 20+ year-old vines in Rioja Alavesa, perhaps Rioja’s best sub-region. The ripe fruit gets a cool fermentation and gentle extraction and then just 4 months aging in a mixture of new American and French oak. This is the perfect marriage of Tempranillo plum and cherry fruit with gentle, but classic, Rioja oak accents. Yes, the aromas and flavors are pretty, but the texture and structure are the real stars here. It’s luxurious, round, and velvety in your mouth but avoids any hint of heaviness. And, the tannins and acids are more than soft enough for solo sipping, but have just the right power to let the wine sing with food and keep your mouth watering – and your hand reaching back to the glass.
“Bodegas Lar de Paula is owned by Fernando Meruelo and his family, who also own Bodegas Heredad de Baroja. The 2010 Tempranillo has a simple, fresh, ebullient nose of dark plum and bright red cherries. The palate is fresh, well-balanced and supple with a caressing, deep, plush, dark plum and cherries smothering the finish that is utterly seamless. This is superbly crafted from start to finish. Drink now-2016.”Wine Advocate 91 points
- Dom Philippe Plantevin Cotes Du Rhone Rouge 2010 Product #27135 (In Stock)
-
-
We’ve said it before, and it still applies here: If you don’t love this robust, poised, and oh-so-flavorful red, then perhaps Cotes du Rhone just isn’t for you. Philippe makes a few different tanks of this blend of Grenache, Carignon, Syrah, Counoise and Cinsault, and then importer Olivier Daubresse chooses the very best for us.
This year’s release shows off all the character and quality of the outstanding 2010 Rhone vintage. The aromas and flavors show off pure, zesty, notes of cassis, blackberry, and blueberry with hints of lavender, rosemary and violet. Very focused and compact in the midpalate, the flavors expand with more blue/black fruit, fresh herb, and cracked black pepper in the back, lingering over fine mineral and sweet tannin on the finish. This will age beautifully for 5+ years, but I don’t know you’d resist drinking it tonight. - La Formica Valpolicella Superiore 2010 Product #27212 (In Stock)
-
-
Like most modern Valpolicella, Corvina makes up the backbone of this bright, fresh, wine with dashes of other traditional grapes – Rondinella and Oseleta – for spice. But, nearly 40% of the wine is Corvinone, a grape long thought to be just a clone of Corvina. Here, it adds a unique, captivating, herbal note that takes Corvina’s crunch red fruits to a whole new level!
After hand harvesting, all of the Valpolicella grapes are lightly air dried to concentrate their flavors, and then fermented and aged all in tank. On the nose, plenty of Valpolicella’s classic red fruit and floral aromas but with an extra kick of fresh herb and leafy tobacco. Bold, ripe, strawberry and sweet cherry fruit takes center stage in your mouth with notes of spice, garrigue, and pipe tobacco adding complexity and interest. The fruit flavors are fresh and crunchy but the texture round and easy to enjoy, with notes of tangy cherry, pomegranate and herb on the mouthwatering finish. Give it a chill and it will quench your thirst on a hot afternoon, but it will be even better with cured or grilled meats! - Osel Ruche Monferrato 2010 Product #25987 (In Stock)
-
-
Ruche is a grape that has a long tradition in the Piemonte region of Italy. Though many people outside the area have probably never heard of it, it is as traditional as they come. Grown at fairly high elevations and in limestone soil, the finicky Ruche grape produces a wine soft, yet complex. Aromas of spiced cherry and florals fill the glass. On the palate, the wine has wonderful flavors of peppered dark cherries and soft plums. A delicious wine to have to with roasted pork tenderloin and even Asian dishes.
- Ciacci Piccolomini Toscano Rosso 2010 Product #26759 (In Stock)
-
-
Doug's favorite Brunello producer turns out a lovely, everyday, Sangiovese too! All stainless steel here, giving the tangy cherry/berry fruit plenty of lift and energy. There's an earthy, loamy, note as well and a hint of violets emerges on the back. Juicy, with firm tannin, this is a great red for a huge range of foods and a very nice bargain to boot!
- Ch Campagne Bacchus Matinas Ventoux 2010 Product #26797 (In Stock)
-
-
From a very old wine estate in Ventoux that's being revitalized by a new generation. After converting to organic farming, this is their first commercial vintage - and what a winner! Very perfumed and pure aromas lead to flavors of ripe raspberry and strawberry fruit and a dash of earth that are nicely intense but also graceful - almost Pinot-like. Stays fresh and easy on the bright finish where a note of black pepper emerges. Rhone wine you can see (and taste) all the way through - who knew?
- X Winery Red X Winemaker's Blend 2010 Product #26849 (In Stock)
-
-
Here’s a great value red for fans of Orin Swift’s “The Prisoner” or any big, fruit-and-spice-packed, red from Australia, California, or Spain -- sort of a “Baby Prisoner.” A new blend this year of Syrah, Petite Sirah, Dolcetto and Malbec, it hits you in the nose with ripe blackberry, black plum, and a hint of licorice. It will smack your palate around with ripe, juicy, black cherry, plum, and blueberry fruit complicated by a lash of mocha, pepper, and licorice. As the wine escapes, it leaves a finish of blackberry cobbler, cinnamon spice and mocha and good ripe tannin. Best partners in crime for Red X are barbequed ribs, burgers, pizza, or most any roasted meat. All this at such a low price just has to be illegal!
- Rubus Zinfandel Lodi Old Vine 2010 Product #26866 (In Stock)
-
-
As IWC said of the 2009, "This style of zin is getting harder to find." Old school, Lodi, Zin with a bold perfume of spicy red berries, flowers, and black pepper. Then a big, juicy, mouthful of super-ripe, even jammy, Zinfandel fruit lifted and kept fresh by a hint of orange peel acidity and more cracked pepper. Finishes juicy and fruity, with no alcoholic heat. Great burger or - even better - BBQ rib wine!
- Trim Cabernet Sauvignon California 2010 Product #26898 (In Stock)
-
-
Ray Signorello's estate wines run in the $50 category, but even top winemakers need a nice bottle of Cab for parties or weeknight supper! Ray sources grapes for this from friends and neighbors and makes it in a fruit-filled, easy-drinking, style. Loads of juicy blackcurrant and red berry fruit are accented by a dash of chocolate and hint of licorice aromas and flavors. Round and stylish in the mouth, notes of cranberry and cherry liquor linger nicely in the end over bright acidity and fine tannin. A very fine burger or lamb chop bottle that you can just sip on all night long.
- Dom La Blaque Pierrevert Rouge 2010 Product #26906 (In Stock)
-
-
Pierrevert perches in the foothills of the Alps in the northernmost corner of Provence. These are some of the highest vineyards in France, with altitudes reaching 1,000 meters, and the grapes here benefit from cool mountain nights and warm Provencal days. This is just about the only wine from the region you'll find in the USA - and we suspect that Thomas Calder picked it because it was among the best!
A blend of the usual Rhone suspects (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre), it opens with captivating aromas of smoky/meaty Syrah wrapped in red Grenachy fruit. In the mouth, focused and velvety in texture and full of black berries, roasted strawberry, and cinnamon spice flavors. Complex notes of smoked meat, blackberry and mineral linger over the bright, firm, finish. It's all a little like Northern Rhone Cornas, but with more red fruit and one less digit in the price tag. An amazing amount of wine for the money and fantastic at table with earthy, rich, foods. - O Fournier Ribera Del Duero 2010 Product #27187 (In Stock)
-
-
As always, plenty of ripe Tempranillo character here but with a lively, juicy, freshness.
"The 2010 Urban Ribera is from younger Tinta del Pais vines in Berlangas and Roa-Burgos that sees three months in French oak barrels. It has an understated bouquet of raspberry leaf and wild hedgerow with touches of briary. The palate is fresh and vibrant with crisp, taut tannins and a very vibrant fresh finish with juicy raspberry and cranberry notes on the aftertaste. Punchy and lively, this is brimming over with flavor at a great price. Drink now-2015."Wine Advocate 89 points
- Doga Della Clavule Morellino Di Scansano 2010 Product #26148 (In Stock)
-
-
From about as far south as you can go in Tuscany and within easy reach of Italy's western coast, this 100% Sangiovese marries warm Tuscan ripeness with a touch of the sea. Aromas and flavors of ripe black cherry and berries with just a touch of bitter chocolate and saline mineral swirl though this medium-bodied red. A fine pizza/pasta wine that will work well with salty olives or grilled seafood, too!
- Dom Pascal Berthier Saint Amour Vv 2010 Product #25820 (In Stock)
-
-
Local lore suggest that this rarely seen Cru was named after a Roman soldier (St. Amateur) who converted to Christianity after escaping death and established a mission near the area. Often more elegant and spicy than Morgon or Moulin-à-Vent, they just as successful in cellar. Pascal Bertier’s Saint-Amour vines average 45 years age and sit on a gentle south/southwestern slope at about 230 meters. His 2009 was a tad closed when it arrived last April but was a sensation when we offered it around Thanksgiving.
The 2010 is built to follow the same path. Give it a short decant (30 minutes is plenty) now and it’s racy, juicy, stony fun with pure tart cherry fruit and red raspberry juice spiced with notes of wet stones and violets. The aromas get stronger and more complex the longer it’s open, and this will be fun to drink now with something like fruited chicken salad or couscous. And, just like last year, by Fall additional layers of fruit and complexity will emerge just in time for Thanksgiving!
