This 100% Tempranillo from Spain’s heartland could become your new "go to" burger, pizza, or just sipping on its own red! Made all in tank - no oak - it's loaded with black plum, cherry, and natural spice aromas and flavors. - Clos Robert Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 Product #25534 (In Stock)
-
-
Bob Stack is best known as an importer of fine value wines from around the world (his Red Dust Shiraz has been a favorite here for years). He named his California negotiant venture Clos Robert to clearly indicate his preference for French-styled Cabs, and that’s what he delivers here. The 2008 Clos Robert Cab is made from a mix of purchased fruit that Bob vinifies and wine he buys from a range of suppliers across California.
The 2008 Clos Robert is terrific blend of California ripeness and Bordeaux style. The aromas and flavors lead with big red currant, blackberry and black cherry fruit that fill your mouth from side to side without ever becoming heavy or clumsy. Notes of dark chocolate, mocha, and sweet spice add complexity and juicy acids and fine tannins keep the wine precise and refreshing. Certainly a great match for a grilled burger, but this will stand up to strip steak and delight on its own as well. - Palacios Remondo Rioja La Vendimia 2010 Product #27128 (In Stock)
-
-
"The 2010 Vendimia has a lifted nose driven by Garnacha. It offers ripe maraschino cherry, marmalade and damson fruit that is uncomplicated but very seductive. The palate is medium-bodied and very well-balanced, underpinned by fine, but firm tannins. There is a rigid backbone to this wine that complements the fleshy red currant and raspberry fruit on the finish. Drink now-2017."Wine Advocate 90 points
- Ch La Roche St. Jean Bordeaux Rouge 2011 Product #26807 (In Stock)
-
-
A classic Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) and Merlot (40%). This is a soft, fruit filled, take on Bordeaux that fills your mouth with juicy red currant and black berry fruit accented by a touch of spice. Subtle notes of fresh herb and tobacco keep this anchored in Bordeaux, and there’s just the enough ripe tannin to let it work well at table (but not enough to get in the way of solo sipping).
- 14 Hands Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 Product #25671 (In Stock)
-
-
A perennial "Best Seller" in restaurants, and a very fine value in Washington Cabernet. 14 Hands Cabernet Sauvignon features aromas of red currants and raspberries with subtle hints of spice. Spiced cherry & plum flavors are joined by notes of cocoa and complemented by fine velvety tannins. A little Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Petit Verdot help drive the fruit forward and keep things soft and lush.
- Vina Alarba Old Vines Garnacha 2011 Product #26315 (In Stock)
-
-
Here’s one of those wines that leaves you scratching your head and asking, “How did they make something this good at this price?!?” Old vine (50 years and more), bush-trained, Garnacha is naturally low-yielding and concentrated in this barren, high-altitude, region. All fruit is hand-harvested, double-sorted, and vinified in a mix of stainless steel, concrete and oak.
You'll find a lovely perfume of fresh earth, lavender, and black cherries leading to medium-bodied, fresh, flavors of tart cherry and black raspberry with a spicy, mineral, edge. The balance here is just perfect and the interplay of sweet fruit, tangy acidity, fresh earth, warm stones, and ripe tannin will pull you back for sip after sip. Chill this to get even more juicy freshness or let it warm up for the fruit to darken and gain richness. A terrific sipper, it will work at table with anything from grilled fish to roasted vegitables or pork. And, just silly value at this price! - Gouguenheim Malbec 2011 Product #26407 (In Stock)
-
-
A spicy, ripe, Malbec that will work well at table or on it's own. It's 100% Malbec pleasure with almost no wood influence. Pretty aromas of black berries, spice, lavender and red licorice lead to smooth, rich, flavors of blackberry and blueberry and a lash of coffee and smoky spice. An easy drinker that has just a bit more going on than you'd expect for the price. Bet this would sing with steak rubbed with coffee and ancho chile!
- Giuggiolo Toscana Rosso 2010 Product #26507 (In Stock)
-
-
Here is my actual tasting note from the first time I tried this: “This is just stupid delicious.” A few more details – this is 100% Sangiovese made in staeinless steel that opens with fresh and lovely aromas of violets, purple fruits and crushed cherries. In the mouth it’s juicy and ripe with loads of pretty fruit and a dark, earthy, streak. Bright and clean through the end with a delicious note of coffee and cocoa dust emerging at the end. Drink it with a little chill with pizza and pasta or warmer with anything off the grill. Like I said: Stupid delicious.
- Drops Of Jupiter Petite Sirah 2011 Product #26595 (In Stock)
-
-
The fact that a wine comes from a famous entertainer (in this case, Train's Jimmy Stafford) isn't a particularly strong endorsement. But here the proof is in the pudding, as they say. This is a bold, juicy, and very fruit-forward bottle of Petite Sirah that somehow stays balanced and fresh. Loaded with ripe blackberry and boysenberry fruit and just a touch of plum pudding and spice, this finishes with big, but very soft, tannins. Great burger or sipping wine and very strong value.
- Healdsburg Ranches North Coast Zinfandel 2009 Product #26631 (In Stock)
-
-
Here's a good, fruit-filled, Zinfandel that you'll enjoy with burgers, BBQ, or nibbles at a party. All Zin from vineyards around Sonoma County's Healdsburg, it serves up generous flavors of berries, cherries and spice in a middle-weight wine that finishes dry and clean. Plenty of flavor but not heavy and not at all "hot". Easy drinking fun!
- 14 Hands Merlot 2010 Product #26725 (In Stock)
-
-
One of the top 20 wine-by-the-glass offerings in US restaurants, 14 Hands Merlot is also a big favorite in the store! This soft, almost juicy, Merlot is packed with cherry and red berry fruit and just a dash of wood spice and classic Merlot herbs. The wine is round and well-focused, and a perfect match with just about any weeknight meal.
- Volpetti Cesanese 2009 Product #26764 (In Stock)
-
-
The 2009 Volpetti Cesanese Lazio is bigger, bolder, more fruit filled, and even more delicious than the 2009 (while still pretty garishly packaged). From vineyards around Rome, the Volpetti packs a punch of lush dark damson plum and black cherry fruit with accents of earth and spice. A short stay in old oak barrels softens the tannins and adds a hint of sweet balsamic. Drink this a touch cool with pizza margherita, a bowl of pasta in red sauce, or even a big, juicy, burger and you'll be very, very, happy!
- Anarkos Puglia Rosso 2011 Product #26780 (In Stock)
-
-
"Anarkos" refers to "Anarchy" - the natural state of Italy's deep South. A blend of Primitivo, Malvasia Nera and Negroamaro this is open, fruity, and just lightly earthy, avoiding the rusticity you find in this neighborhood. Juicy and rich with loads of pure berry fruit, this is fine to sip and even better with mushrooms or something touched with balsamic.
- Leese-fitch Merlot 2011 Product #26831 (In Stock)
-
-
"With dark ruby color, this blend has aromas of blueberry cobbler, muddled basil, red raspberry, and cherry cola. In the mouth, there are flavors of black raspberry compote, cherries jubilee, tart plum, cedar, and a hint of red apple. The finish shows French oak notes of caramel and vanilla as well as blackberry and watermelon rind." Winery notes
- Cantele Salice Salentino Riserva 2009 Product #26941 (In Stock)
-
-
Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri and “Best Value of the Year”! The highest honor awarded by the Italian’s guide to Italian wine doesn’t often go to wines from Puligia, much less wines that sell for this price. From vineyards around the little Pulgia town of Salice Salentino, this is intended to be 100% Negromaro – although the vineyard is old and 5-10% of the vines planted years ago were probably Malvasia Nero. Ripe fruit is picked in early September, rushed to the winery, and fermented cool in stainless steel. Two years aging in one and two year-old small barrels rounds off the edges without adding oak flavors.
If you know Salice Salentino, you’ll recognize the aromas and flavors here. The black color tells you this is a ripe, deep, wine, and the aromas of dark black plum and cherry, warm licorice root, savory spice, and purple flowers reinforce that impression. In the mouth, the flavors are bold, warming and ripe – blackberry, black cherry, hot earth, roasted meat, spice and cocoa powder – with plenty of the meaty, earthy, complexity that Salice Salentino is known for. But, it’s the purity, clarity, and wonderful freshness of flavor and texture that take this to another level. Ripe, not roasted. Powerful, not rustic. Absolutely delicious with grilled sausages, roasted meats, or just nuts and olives, at a value price hard to resist. - Colsanto Ruris Umbria 2010 Product #26966 (In Stock)
-
-
Here's our single best-selling Italian wine of the past five years - a fantastic value that tastes like it costs twice as much as it does. The wine is mainly (70%) Sangiovese and delivers plenty of that variety's juicy black cherry fruit. But, the 20% Merlot in the blend rounds out the mid-palate and keeps the wine soft while the secret ingredient -- 10% Sagrantino -- adds spice and complexity uncommon in Umbrian wines. Sure, it goes well with pizza and robust pasta sauces, but there's enough going on to handle game and hard, salty, cheeses and a soft enough finish just to drink at a party. Fantastic value.
- Leese-Fitch Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 Product #27171 (In Stock)
-
-
Deep purple in color, the 2011 Leese Fitch Cabernet Sauvignon blend jumps from the glass with aromas of juicy blackberries, ripe blueberries, dark chocolate, and toasted walnuts. Black currants, ripe blackberries, dark cherry, milk chocolate, espresso, clove, and vanilla oak nuances. The finish is truly lingering with a lot of dark blue fruit notes.
- Chapoutier Bila Haut Cotes Du Roussillon Villages 2011 Product #27054 (In Stock)
-
-
Michel Chapoutier's genius shows through clearly in this wildly over-achieving red, a wine that has made the Wine Spectator Top 100 list in two of the past three vintages - and could well make it again with a fine 2011 that Robert Parker couldn't resist rating this beauty 90 points last Fall. A blend of Grenache, Carignan, and Syrah from schist sites in rocky Roussillon, the 2011 is a muscular, concentrated, wine that retains just the right amount of lift and freshness. Deep aromas and flavors of red fruits - cherry, plum, and fresh raspberry tart - gain complexity from notes of smoky earth and bitter chocolate. Tangy blueberry/raspberry acidity adds freshness and makes this a great wine to pair with everything from pizza to most anything on the grill. Wine Advocate 90 points
- Hillinger Small Hill Red 2011 Product #27228 (In Stock)
-
-
The kind of soft, supple, and oh-so-easy-to-drink red you'll want to have at hand all summer long! A blend of 50% Merlot plus equal parts Pinot Noir and St. Laurent, this is bursting with aromas of dark cherry, black raspberry, and a dusty chocolate note. In the mouth, the fruit gets a little tangier with boysenberry and cherry notes plus more bitter chocolate and just the right touch of oak spice. Great energy and focus from start to finish with tangy blueberry and chocolate notes lingering. Fun to just sip and a great match for grilled sausage, roast chicken, or burgers.
- Block Nine Caiden's Vyd Pinot Noir 2012 Product #27238 (In Stock)
-
-
A new Pinot Noir California Pinot specialist is normally nothing much to get excited about, but these guys are really on to something. This 100% Pinot from around California aged in all French oak (but not much new) and delivers honest scents of smoky Pinot fruit and a nice mouthful of vibrant Pinot flavors: cherry, pomegranate, fresh earth, and spice. Nicely ripe at just 13.1% alcohol and with juicy, tangy, acidity, it's refreshing and fun to drink on its own or with salmon, salads, or pizza. Great stuff that you'll want to try.
