Cortese is best known as the grape of Gavi, but it's grown seldom as interesting as this! This wine is surprisingly complex on the nose, although we struggled to put it to words. Think of smelling an herbal infusion with lemon, honey, and lavender on a sunny day. (Fanciful, but it's the best I could do!) In the mouth the wine is clean and crisp with notes of lemon, bees wax, and fresh herbs complicated by something hard to describe but vaguely grapefruity. finishes clean and fresh with just a hint of green apple. this is going to be our "go to" for picnics, cold seafood salads, and simple chicken dishes. A whole lotta wine for the money.

It’s hard to get excited about most Pinot Grigio at this price, but this crisp and lemony example from Fruili made us sit up and take notice. Pretty aromas of stone fruit, lemon zest, and a touch of mineral. In the mouth, fresh and bright with juicy flavors of cut apple, peach, lime and lemon and a mouthwatering, juicy, finish. Clean, bright, very refreshing - and great value!

Bright, lemony, and fantastic value. Cool, refreshing aromas of fresh flowers and lemon oil whaft from the glass. Soft and round in the mouth at first with with plenty of tart green apple, lemon, lime, pink citrus and green melon fruit on display. About halfway back, the acidity comes forward and lifts the fruit up and delivers a bright, mouthwatering, finish.

Another piece of evidence for the excellence of the 2012 vintage (and the value at this much under-appreciated estate). Once again, 100% Garganega done in tank with 5 months lees contact for richness and depth. A rich, almost opulent texture to this lemon, mineral and grilled nut wine, with bitter citrus pith and orange zest on the mouthwatering finish. More than rich enough to enjoy solo, but a stunner with smoked, grilled, or poached fish!

A fun, rich, blend of equal parts Grecanico, Inzolia and Grillo from Sicily, this fresh and fruity white delivers the richness you'd expect from warm Sicily with plenty of citrusy acidity to keep things fresh. Opens with fruity aromas of citrus, peach, apricot and seashell. Then creamy and round in the mouth and a zesty, lime skin and melon rind, finish. Bright enough for an SB fan, rich enough to replace Chardonnay!

We (and many of you) loved the 2010 La Formica Soave for its marriage of rich texture and bright, refreshing, acids. The 2011 is at once richer than the 2010 – even more mouthfilling and round – and more fresh and vibrant. Once again, it’s 100% estate-grown Garganega, Soave’s best grape, hand harvested and vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel (no oak to mask the flavors).
The color is classic Soave – golden yellow – as are the generous aromas of almonds, lemon zest, white flowers, apricot, and dash of fresh ginger. In the mouth, there’s the fantastic yin/yang of richness and zing that makes Soave so captivating. The texture is silky and round and coats your mouth completely, but the flavors are bright and fresh – Myer lemon, lime zest, tangy apricot, yellow apple and golden pear fruit with just a touch of honeysuckle and fresh almond. The citrusy acidity scrubs your palate clean as the boisterous fruit and honesuckle flavors go on and on. As always, this is a light, fresh, take on Pinot Grigio that's loaded with apple, apricot, and apple fruit with accents of Acacia flower and a touch of almond. New to us, but sure to become a customer favorite! Pinot Grigio grown on the plains north of Venice don't often yield this kind of character. It's a rich, creamy, Grigio with lots of depth to the lightly candied pear and salty caramel flavors. Ripe pear features prominently in the nose and on the palate, with plenty of spicy pear and nectarine fruit lingering at the end. A powerhouse Pinot Grigio that will sing with Indian or Thai food.

A terrific follow-up to the Tanzer 92 point 2010. Unusually focused and precise for Pinot Grigio, it finishes brisk and strong with mouth-coating flavors. We think the Wine Enthusiast review says it all!
This is delightful, with amazing intensity and unique smoothness. Aromas of honey, peach and cantaloupe linger on the finish, with a fresh note of mountain flower. This is a simple wine, but a perfectly executed one. Wine Enthusiast 92 points

Marramiero's "DaMa" Trebbiano is proof that even the most humble of grapes can shine with the right treatment! Trebbiano has often been overcropped and made into light table wines that lack much real character, but that is not the case with this beauty. Exotic scents of green melon and honeysuckle give way to nice richness on the mid-palate. The finish is snappy and crisp, though, with that signature hint of herbaceousness that we love so much in Italian whites. Not sure what's in the water these days at this excellent co-op in the Alto Adige, but we know what's in the bottle - a LOT of quality for the money. This is a stunning Pinot Blanc, bursting with crisp green and yellow fruit with juicy acids and a firm, focused, mineral finish. Perhaps the ultimate wine to pair with any crab dish, but impossible to resist on its own.

Another great vintage for one of our all-time favorite Orvieto! A blend of 50% Procanico, 20% Grechetto, 30% Verdello, Malvasia & Drupeggio, this is always a bigger take on Orvieto, with lots of rich peach and pear fruit. The texture is creamy, but there's a nice lime zest acidity to keep things bright plus notes of almond and fruit blossom. Long and floral on the mouthwatering finish.

When you think of Piemonte, red wines come to mind. But, here in the bed of an ancient glacial lake just north of Turin, "Gigi" Orsolani sets the benchmark for brilliant, bright, white wines made from the anchient Erbaluce grape. It's a high acid grape that seems to do best when grown at moderate yields on old-fashioned pergolas and fermented clean and dry in stainless steel. Gigi's "La Rustia" Erbaluce opens with aromatics of orchard fruits, wildflowers, and honey and then fills your mouth with ripe fruit and refreshing mountain herbs. Bright and mouthwatering, this is rich enough to just sip but outstanding with cheeses and seafood.
