- Bzikot Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatieres 2009 Product #25156 (In Stock)
-
-
Sylvan considers this his top wine, and I know folks who have served it blind against Leflaive's Folatieres and seen most people prefer it. Certainly, he has crafted a wonderful wine in 2009. As you'd expect, here you'll find plenty of 2009's big ripeness here, but also the fine acid/mineral character of classic white Burgundy. Apple and stone fruits, a touch of lime skin, fresh butter and hazelnut flavors and aromas all swirl in a smooth-textured wine with just the right amount of acidity at the end. Enjoyable now with rich foods and sure to improve over the next 5-10 years.
- Bzikot Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Perrieres 2009 Product #25157 (In Stock)

While Sylvan considers Folatieres his best wine, year-after-year, it's the 1er Cru Les Perrieres that takes the prize for me. Perhaps a smidge less concentrated than Folatieres, but even more mineral, precise, and defined to my taste. A wonderfully complex nose of chalk, limestone, lime, apple, and a bunch of other stuff I can't name. In the mouth, the wine is pure and deep with ripe stone fruit, melon, minerals, and emerging nut and fresh butter notes. Long and very persistent on the finish. A great wine, but not much at all available.
- Lamy Pillot Chassagne Montrachet Pot Bois 2009 Product #25353 (In Stock)
-
-
Although Pot Bois is "only" a village wine, the vineyard is in the middle of 1er Cru vineyards and delivers that level of quality. Sébastien explains that the site is unusual in that it is always a little out of sync with the vineyards around it. In 2009, it remained a touch cooler than many neighboring sites, retaining a fantastic freshness to go with 2009's fine ripeness. With zero new oak, the purity and focus of this fine site shines through. You'll find aromas and flavors of yellow apple, pine nut, and a touch of mint before orchard fruits and white pepper appear. Weighty but also vibrant, this would be lovely to drink now on its own or with pan fried fish.
- Marie Bernard (Marc Morey) Chassagne 1er En Virondot 2006 Product #25223 (In Stock)

Labeled for us under the Marie Bernard name to comply with Virginia's restrictive distribution rules, this is the exact same wine sold under the Marc Morey label in France and the rest of the USA.
“Outstanding. This is unusually ripe for this cru as the elevated placement of the vineyard typically makes for very cool and reserved wines when young. A green fruit, citrus and pear nose merges gracefully into refined, pure and focused flavors that are also a bit more powerful than usual though there is plenty of the hallmark minerality and vibrancy on the impressively long and fine finish. Lovely juice.” Allen Meadows 91 points

“Outstanding. A pretty and attractively scented nose features notes of citrus, baking spice, lychee nut and rose water that precedes the nicely rich, round and relatively powerful medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent focus and drive on the impressively long and mineral-driven finish. After two hours in a decanter, this was a radically different, and better, wine than when it was initially opened.” Allen Meadows 91 points
“From a steep, rocky section of vines above the Caillerets, the Marc Morey 2007 Chassagne Montrachet En Virondot offers an aromatic and gustatory combination of brine and meat stock mingled with fresh lemon – along with an eventually sense of overt chalkiness – remind me of Chablis. Crystalline mineral aspects seem to shimmer through the citrus, leading to a refreshing and invigorating finish. Some tasters might find this lacking in sweetness of fruit, although there is a Chenin-like note of quince. This is one of Mollard's most interesting wines of the vintage, and should prove fascinating to follow over at least the next 5-6 years.” Wine Advocate 91 points

“Outstanding. Moderate golden color. A perfumed nose of straw, citrus and white peach leads to intense, delicious and beautifully well-detailed middle weight flavors culminate in a long, mouth coating and impressively long finish. I quite like this as there is just a touch of backend austerity that confers a "clean" and refreshing character to the finish without falling over into severity. In sum, lovely juice with 3 to 5 years of upside potential, perhaps a bit more.” Allen Meadows 91 points
“The Marc Morey 2007 Chassagne Montrachet Les Vergers smells of honeysuckle, lily, lime, and honeydew melon; comes to the palate lush in texture yet lusciously juicy; and finishes with chalk and stone undertones that offer a perfect foil to the dripping ripeness of melon and liquid flowers. Hints of lime zest and red currant in the finish offer further counterpoint and serve for a bit of invigoration. This is irresistible already, although I imagine one could hold if for a half dozen years.” Wine Advocate 91 points

"Outstanding. Notes of ripe orchard fruit, citrus, floral and brioche give way to discreetly wood-influenced medium full flavors that are round yet detailed and pack really lovely intensity on the palate staining and lingering finish that possesses a seductive mouth feel." Allen Meadows 91 points
“Intensely ripe scents of Normandy cider, peach, and decadent lily on the nose of Marc Morey 2007 Chassagne Montrachet Les Chenevottes are followed by a surprisingly chalky and dense – by no means over-ripe or too-soft – palate impression, with subtly tart and juicy apple, pineapple, and peach serving for refreshment. Faintly bitter fruit pit notes are nicely integrated to offer a bit of counterpoint, and the forward fruit and lushness of finish here will make it a crowd pleaser. It’s not as though there are no mineral aspects here: a certain sense of chalkiness is very much present.” Wine Advocate 90 points

“Outstanding. A touch of reduction knocks down the expressiveness of the nose somewhat but not enough to conceal the otherwise cool, ripe and pretty orchard fruit and citrus aromas. The delicious, rich, round and nicely plump flavors possess good mid-palate concentration and are set off against a racy, intense, detailed and lightly mineral-suffused finish that also displays a touch of austerity. Excellent.”Allen Meadows 91 points

More to Morey than Chassagne! The Domaine purchases fruit for this Puligny from the very fine 1er Cru vineyard, Les Referts. Referts sits on the northernmost border of Puligny-Montrachet, just across a path from Meursault 1er Les Charmes. Given the amount of clay here, it’s not surprising that this rich, ripe, 2006 is kind of a Meursault/Puligny hybrid, marrying buttery, chalky, richness to classic Puligny minerality. Rich enough for lobster but still very precise and transparent.

“From contract fruit, the Marc Morey 2007 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts is dominated by nut oils, lime, white peach, and honey, playing against chalk, salt and iodine, in a display that hints at Chablis or at Riesling. This is silken-textured, irresistibly luscious, and forward, yet not without mineral fascination, and lingeringly savory. I would expect it to perform well for 5-6 years, but can see no other good reason to wait.” Wine Advocate 92 points

“Outstanding. Here there is a completely different aromatic expression with its nose of white peach, spiced pear and vague suggestion of the exotic that merges into textured and highly seductive flavors that possess a satiny mouth feel on the pure and energetic finish. This is a really wonderful effort with laser-like focus and a beguiling sense of overall harmony.” Allen Meadows 91 points
