Stunning Wines, Even More Stunning Value: Dom des Malandes Chablis 2015
“What is important every year no matter what the weather or challenges is for us to make good, good, good, Chablis.” That’s what Domaine des Malandes’ founder/owner Lynn Marchive told me a few days ago as we discussed the wet 2014, warm 2015, and disastrous 2016 vintages and prepared to taste today’s featured wines. And, as Lynn said, these wines are at least good times 3.
And, despite soaring prices for Burgundy’s Chardonnays in both Chablis and the Cote d’Or, you can once again enjoy these vibrant, fresh, deeply flavored, and stony pure wines at best in the USA direct import prices. Last year, we sold out of Lynn’s 2014s in 3 days. We received a larger allocation this year, but the wines may not last any longer at all. By all means come taste the wines this Friday and Saturday, but reserve yours now with confidence – you do not want to miss these delicious, deeply satisfying, wines.
You may mix/match Malandes Chablis for best six and 12 bottle savings. Mixed six/12 bottle discounts will not show on your online order form or confirmation but will be applied before your card is charged.

- Dom Des Malandes Chablis 2015 Product #31844 (In Stock)
A stellar introduction to the joys of Chablis and the outstanding quality of Lyne Marchive’s Domaine des Malandes. Lyne makes this from 8 small parcels scattered across the region with vines up to 60 years old. In 2015, there’s an extra layer of richness and fruit but no shortage of refreshing citrus and salty stone minerality. You’ll love this right now for the fresh fruit and saline finish and even more next year as it gains complexity. Note that Burghound’s description matches mine, but the score is far too low.
"Subtle and stony on the nose, dry but with a citrus foundation giving depth. All present and correct and with good length." JancisRobinson.com 16/20 points
"Chablis typicity on the very fresh nose that combines notes of pear, apple and lemon rind with those of iodine and quinine. The textured, round and seductive medium weight flavors possess fine concentration, all wrapped in an almost soft and mildly sweet finale. This easy-to-like effort could also be drunk immediately."Allen Meadows 87 points
- Dom Des Malandes Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume VV 2015 Product #31847 (In Stock)
Perhaps THE most stellar value of the offering for drinking now and over the next 10 years. Fourchaume sits on the same slope and to the north of the Grand Crus and often gives glimpses of Grand Cru richness and power. Wonderful Chablis intensity and salty vibrancy here but also a very generous dose of rich, ripe, buttered pear. Turns stony and showing a touch of wood-induced salty caramel (20% ages in 1-5 year-old barrel) on the long, pure, finish. Extraordinary value here in a wine that’s almost too delicious today to justify waiting.
"Expressive with wet stones and green fruits. A steely intensity that was missing from their Montmains. On the palate, too, more drive, though less immediate fruit than the Côte de Léchet." JancisRobinson.com 16.5/20 points
"This is aromatically fresher still with its ripe array of green fruit, citrus, white flower and iodine aromas. Consistent with the nose the seductively textured, round and delicious flavors possess fine freshness, verve and salinity while coating the mouth on the moderately dry but sneaky long finish."Allen Meadows 90 points
- Dom Des Malandes Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 2015 Product #31848 (In Stock)
From 50+ year-old vines in Chablis's greatest Grand Cru, this is simply stunning. Fermented and aged all in French oak (1-5 years old), this wants 3-4 years for the vanilla to fade - then watch out. A truly amazing price for very "grand" Grand Cru white Burgundy.
"Dusty and restrained but prefiguring the intensity on the palate. More obvious fruit on the mid palate than the Vaudésir but I find the latter more penetrating and persistent. This is more rounded and gentle." JancisRobinson.com 17/20
"Moderate pain grillé sets off cool and pure aromas of white flower, lemon rind, tidal pool and quinine that retain a good sense of freshness. There is good richness to the intensely stony full-bodied flavors that possess good power and ample amounts of palate staining dry extract on the youthfully austere and beautifully long finale. This clean and balanced effort is drier than most 2015s and is the best wine in the range this year."Allen Meadows 90-93 points
- Dom Des Malandes Chablis 1er Cru Mont De Millieu 2015 Product #31849 (In Stock)
While Fourchaume is more rich and immediately delicious, this could be the better value if you’d like to cellar your Chablis for 3-10 years. One of the warmer sites in Chablis and, like the Grand Crus, with prime southern exposure, Mont de Milieu gives wines of more body and richness and most other 1er sites. The richer fruit benefits from a bit more wood (50% of 1-5 years age) to tame the fruit and allow true Chablis minerality and vivacity emerge. Delicious now for the fruit and spice but at its best from 2020.
"The 2015 Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu, which was aged half and half in oak barrels and stainless steel, has a strict and tightly wound bouquet with apple blossom and cold limestone scents, both well defined. The palate is crisp and fresh with apple peeling, fresh pear and a touch of herbaceousness. But I like the tension and focus here, surprisingly reserved for a 2015 and benefiting from superior tension and terroir-expression on the finish."Wine Advocate 91 points
"A lightly exotic nose of pure white orchard fruit and muscat nuances displays background hints of mineral reduction and seaweed, both of which are picked up by the rich, round, powerful and concentrated flavors that possess an opulent but balanced finish that exhibits slightly better depth and length. Worth a look."Allen Meadows 91 points
